Behind a 2025 Tacoma TRD Pro

The truck sets the limits: 6,000 lb of trailer, an 11,800 lb combination rating, and what its payload allows on the hitch. Everything on this page is a planning budget, not a measured result.

Where the 6,000 lb goes

  • The deck allowance covers the 1,125 lb catalog deck plus spare, mounts and seats until they are weighed.
  • Tongue weight target 600–660 lb (10–11%), inside Toyota's 9–11% range; a weight-distributing hitch is required above 5,000 lb.
  • The truck's 11,800 lb combination rating then leaves 5,800 lb for the loaded truck. Payload and hitch limits are checked separately.
  • Fresh, gray and toilet tanks travel empty. Anything kept aboard counts.
  • The 11 ft 6 in section has about 11% more perimeter than the earlier 10 ft one; its shell and lining mass are not yet re-budgeted.

Height

AllocationInchesNotes
Road to deck19Low fendered aluminum deck; the 14 ft catalog baseline
Clearance under the floor flat3Clears deck flex and trailer twist; carries no load
Body13811 ft 6 in, 48 in floor flat
Roof solar rows2The only roof equipment; panels lift off
Overall16213 ft 6 in, the design's conservative planning height; California's limit is 14 ft

The body sits at the planning height with no margin. Any added roof equipment, or a taller deck, needs a shorter body.

Length and turning

The complete trailer, coupler to tail, is kept within 20 ft. The deck is a nominal 14 ft (173 in actual) under a 17 ft body, which overhangs about 15 in at each end and rests on the deck at four support stations.

With a plain elliptical nose, a plan-view estimate kept the 17 ft body clear of the truck up to roughly a 68° truck-to-trailer angle. The blunter rounded ends are wider close to the tip, so that estimate is being redone; the allowed angle is not chosen yet.

The deck

A low fendered aluminum utility or car-hauler deck about 19 in high on two braked 3,500 lb axles. Deckover trailers were rejected: their decks sit 31½–35 in up and their 14 ft steel versions weigh 2,400–3,000 lb. Fender heights are not published by any maker checked and need a tape measure on a real trailer before purchase.
